With the 2010 Cox Plate running this Saturday October 23, punters have the chance to bet on any of 7 Group level races during Cox Plate Day. Read on to get our best tips for 2010 Cox Plate Day, which will cover selections for win bets, place bets and exotic bets.

The day will start with the 1000 metre Inglis Banner at 12:35PM AEDST. We reckon Masthead (number 5) is the way to go if you are picking a winner, and places could go to Mirror Man (number 6) and Elite Falls (number 9).

Next will be the Arrow Training Services Stakes at 1:20PM, a 1600 metre race where we are backing Absolutely (number 7) to win. Our thoughts on the potential placegetters centre on Rose of Peace (number 10) and Ambers Waltz (number 1).

If you watch the races this far without an online betting account, it still won’t be too late to sign up with Luxbet to take advantage of great odds on all the Group racing action. Sign up with Luxbet now for a big bonus bet and odds equal to those of the best Tote plus 20% on all Melbourne metropolitan races!

The first Group race of the day will be the Group 3 1300 Australia Stakes (previously the Red Anchor Stakes). This 1200 metre sprint will see Lone Rock (number 2) putting in a winning performance, while places could go to Blink (number 9), Dutchy’s Lass (number 7), and Multahem (number 5).

One of the major events of the day, the Group 2 Crystal Mile, will follow at 2:40PM. The 1600 metre run looks to be favouring the talents of Rockpecker (number 8 ) this year, though Snow Alert (number 9), Drumbeats (number 2) and Rock Kingdom (number 1) aren’t without their charms.

After that is the Group 2 Schweppes Stakes, a 1200 metre sprint that will jump at 3:20PM. Our pick to win is Hot Danish (number 4), while places will go to some mix of Melito (number 5), Black Caviar (number 6), and True Persuasion (number 3) in a race that is sure to bring excitement to Cox Plate Day.

An important race to watch if you are betting next weekend will be the Group 2 AAMI Vase. This 2040 metre race is a great prep run for the Victoria Derby, and it is set to start at 4:00PM. To us, Kudakulari (number 6) looks set to win. The places will probably go to Rekindled Interest (number 7), Bullbars (number 5) or Smokin’ Joe (number 4).

Just before the main event of Cox Plate day is the Group 2 Cathay Pacific Airways Cup (previously the Moonee Valley Cup). The race will begin at 4:40PM and we think Precedence (number 2) is set to take this one, with places falling to Jessicabeel (number 3), Above Average (number 5), or Master O’Reilly (number 6).

The 2010 Cox Plate run is set to start at 5:35PM. We are going with everyone else and supporting So You Think (number 5) to win this in style. For places, we think that Shoot Out (number 6), Zipping (number 1) and Captain Sonador (number 8 ) all look to be good prospects. See our full 2010 Cox Plate Tips and Betting Preview post for more details.

The last race of the day will be the Group 3 Pulse Pharmacy Stakes (previously the Tesio Stakes and it was the Inglis Mile before that). This 1600 metre run will go off at 6:20PM. Our system tells us that Katie Lee (number 1) will pick up the win, while places could go to Lady Lynette (number 2), Preventable (number 15) or Zantelagh (number 16).

If you want to bet on any of these 2010 Cox Plate Day races, we highly recommend signing up with Luxbet. You can benefit from big bonus bets as a new player, and you will also get great everyday value as Luxbet offer odds equal to the best of the Totes plus 20%.

The 2010 Cox Plate is running this Saturday October 23, starting at 5:35PM AEDST at Moonee Valley Racecourse. Read on for a betting preview and our top 2010 Cox Plate tips to help you pick a winner as well as the placegetters for your exotic bets.

Our pick to win the 2010 Cox Plate is So You Think, priced at $1.55 to win in the fixed odds market at Luxbet. As last year’s winner and having proven himself at the distance in the 2000 metre Group 1 Yalumba Stakes last start, no Cox Plate tips worth reading will pick against So You Think.

Moving on to the likely placegetters, our greatest confidence is in Shoot Out. He is priced at $11 to win, but we are really just picking him to place. This is partially based on his third place Turnbull Stakes finish, but also on his Australian Derby win earlier in the year and just generally good form this season.

Next of our placegetter picks is Zipping, winner of the Turnbull Stakes, and third place in the 2009 Cox Plate. This really is Zipping’s distance, and he probably has a good chance of improving on last year’s performance even if he cannot win.

Our final pick for the places is Captain Sonador, who shocked everyone with his win in the Epsom Handicap a few weeks ago. He hasn’t suddenly become a worldbeater, of course, but a place in the Cox Plate is not out of the question, and he is certainly worth including in any box trifecta or box First Four bet on the Cox Plate.

If you are interested in betting on the Cox Plate at odds equal to the best of the three Totes plus an extra 20% on top, then you need to join Luxbet now! New players can also claim generous free bonus bets that could help you win more.

Money is continuing to pour in for reigning champion So You Think to win the 2010 Cox Plate this Saturday, the updated odds following this morning’s final field and barrier draw seeing the Bart Cummings-trained champ shortening further into $1.50.

Australia’s premier online bookmaker SportsBet now have So You Think, drawn well in barrier five, at $1.50 to win back-to-back Cox Plates at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Big bets have been placed on Zipping to win the 2010 Cox Plate – SportsBet shortening their quote on him from $15 to $14 in the last hour!

The second favourite is the Gai Waterhouse-trained More Joyous paying $7 to cause an upset in the $3 million weight-for-age feature.

With four spring wins behind her, More Than Ready mare More Joyous is drawn in barrier three and at 55.5kg is the perfect lightweight chance in the Cox Plate.

The other runner the punters are getting behind is the Lloyd Williams-owned Zipping, the last start Turnbull Stakes winner shortening in from $15 to $14 at Sportsbet in the last hour.

The veteran of the 2010 Cox Plate field, Zipping is a genuine stayer with real claims to win on Saturday and is on way to the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday November 2.

Other shorter-priced entries in the Cox Plate odds are John Wallace’s consistent Queensland galloper Shoot Out paying $12 despite a jockey yet to be confirmed following the tragic death of regular rider Stathi Katsidis, and Whobegotyou at a quote of $15.

Both Shoot Out and Whobegotyou have drawn wider, however, set to start from barriers nine and 10 respectively on Saturday.

After coming up trumps with barrier one in the Cox Plate starting positions Trusting is at $26 to win, the John Thompson-trained four-year-old a top Place chance after twice finishing second at Group 1 level this season.

Trusting finished second to More Joyous in the George Main Stakes last month and then last-start was runner-up to Captain Sonador in the Epsom Handicap, however both of these races were over 1600m and the step up to 2040m on Saturday will be a challenge for Trusting.

Epsom Handicap winner Captain Sonador is also backing up in the Cox Plate, the Shamardal four-year-old from Oakey in Queensland at the bottom of the betting markets paying $101 as they are untested over the Cox Plate distance.

The other runner paying $101 to win the Cox Plate is Macau gelding Luen Yat Forever, drawn ideally and set to improve second-up in Australia but allocated a hefty 59kg.

Wall Street, the other overseas raider in the Cox Plate field this year, is more highly fancied paying $21 at Sportsbet.

The Kiwi champion will be having their maiden Australian race after twice winning at Group 1 level in New Zealand.

The 2010 Tatts Cox Plate is set to jump at 5:35pm (AEDST) as Race 8 on the cracker nine-race card at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

For the best Cox Plate odds and betting options for this Saturday’s showdown, SportsBet is the place to go so visit them and sign up with Australia’s most trusted online bookmaker today!

n an Australian racing first, leading online bookmaker SportsBet has declared the 2010 Cox Plate a one horse race and has paid out all bets totaling more than $250,000 on the Bart Cummings-trained So You Think.

The unprecedented move sees punters collect their winnings an incredible five days before the world’s greatest Weight-for-Age race is run.

“So You Think is clearly our worst result in the Cox Plate, but we think the race is a foregone conclusion and as such we’re happy for our members to enjoy their winnings early,” said SportsBet‘s Chief Executive Matthew Tripp.

“As a bookmaker I know there is no such thing as a sure thing in racing, but this horse is about as close as you get.

“He has been so dominant this spring and we think the Cox Plate is at his mercy.

“A week is a long time in racing and anything can happen but our members who backed the horse can relax knowing they’ve already been paid.”

In August one punter had $7000 at $11 on So You Think, meaning he has collected $77,000 before even the barrier draw has taken place.

Unbeaten in three runs this campaign; So You Think is now into just $1.50 for the Cox Plate.

“As with all SportsBet early payouts and refunds, there is no requirement for punters to reinvest their winnings, it’s their money and they can do as they please with it,” said Tripp.

“The bottom line is, why risk betting anywhere else when SportsBet regularly pays out early on big events?”

SportsBet is generating a reputation for paying out early on big sporting competitions. In November last year, the bookie paid out early on Tiger Woods to win the Australian Masters after two rounds when he was three strokes ahead. Woods faltered in the third round to share the lead with two others, before he shot clear on the final day to win the tournament.

However, the bookmaker does not always get it right. Earlier this year, SportsBet paid out more than $150,000 in bets on Richmond for the AFL Wooden Spoon after just four rounds. A mid-season revival saw the Tigers finish two wins clear of West Coast at the bottom of the ladder.

The payout applies to all single wagers placed on So You Think at SportsBet before 10.30am AEDT on Monday, 18 October 2010.

A scintillating showdown between Gai Waterhouse’s brilliant mare More Joyous and weight-for-age star So You Think has been set up for the 2010 Cox Plate following More Joyous’ win in the Toorak Handicap over the weekend.

Four-year-old More Than Ready mare More Joyous made it eight successive victories when she outclassed her competition in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday, proving her versatility and talent at her maiden Melbourne run.

Owner John Singleton had scheduled the Toorak as More Joyous’ final run before embarking on the Cox Plate field, and she couldn’t have produced a more ideal Cox Plate trial.

The impressive performance bought More Joyous’ record up to 10 wins from 13 starts and has Waterhouse more confident of her chances in the $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 23.

Following the win More Joyous jumped up the 2010 Cox Plate odds, now the $7.50 second elect behind Bart Cummings’ reigning champion So You Think at SportsBet.

High Chaparral four-year-old So You Think improved his vice-like grip over the Cox Plate betting markets, firming from $2.40 into a very short quote of $1.65 after he made it back-to-back Group 1 victories with an easy three length win in the Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

So You Think claimed his sixth career win from just nine starts, his third straight this spring, beating Alcopop and Whobegotyou in the Yalumba causing bookies to slash their price on him to win the 2010 Cox Plate.

Bookies have also reported a betting plunge for So You Think in the 2010 Melbourne Cup markets.

So You Think is now the $5.50 favourite to win the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday November 2 and complete the rare Cox Plate – Melbourne Cup double emulating the great Saintly who won both races in 1996.

Mark Kavanagh’s Whobegotyou was paying $6 in the Cox Plate markets before Saturday, however with Alcopop able to run him down and steal second in the Yalumba, Whobegotyou has drifted out to $13 in the markets.

The 2010 Cox Plate final field will be released next Tuesday October 19 and published here along with the detailed form of the runners and betting tips.

To get in on the action now and lock your favourites in at a generous early odds, sign up with SportsBet today!

The Lloyd Williams-owned Zipping has burst into contention for the 2010 Cox Plate following the evergreen nine-year-olds’ courageous win in the $500,000 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Sunday.

Danehill gelding Zipping has shortened into $12 from $31 to win the $3 million Cox Plate on October 23 at Moonee Valley after holding on to defeat a star studded field in the 2010 Turnbull Stakes.

On Sunday Zipping ($17) stormed home to defeat reigning Melbourne Cup winner Shocking ($5.50) by a long head with Shoot Out ($3.70F) in third.

The quality of the field Zipping defeated saw bookies across the country slash their prices on Zipping to become just the second nine-year-old in history to win the Cox Plate following Fields Of Omagh in 2006.

Zipping has twice placed third in the esteemed weight-for-age feature, finishing behind So You Think last year and Maldivian in 2008.

Jockey Nick Williams is Zipping’s regular rider, aboard for the runner’s maiden Group 1 win in the Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington back in March, and will be aboard the veteran again in the Cox Plate field this year.

Following the reshuffle of the Cox Plate odds at Sportsbet, So You Think remains the hot favourite at $2.50 but More Joyous has drifted out to $7 from $5.50 as Whobegotyou has shortened into the $6 second favourite.

Other big movers in the Cox Plate betting were Metal Bender in from $21 to $11 after a gallant fourth place finish to Zipping in the Turnbull, Turnbull Stakes runner-up Shocking slashed from $21 into $13 and Gai Waterhouse’s Herculian Prince now at $34 cut from $101 following their impressive win in the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The 2010 Cox Plate third declarations are out tomorrow, narrowing down the list of horses heading towards the spring feature.

Now is the time to get the longest odds on your favourites before prices are further shortened tomorrow, so sign up with SportsBet today and get in on the Cox Plate action!

Gai Waterhouse’s stunning mare More Joyous has leapfrogged in the 2010 Cox Plate betting markets, firming into the $5.50 second elect after winning the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

A four-year-old daughter of More Than Ready, More Joyous has enjoyed three emphatic wins this season and Saturday’s success saw her shorten from $9 into $5.50 to win the $3 million Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 23.

More Joyous is now the $5.50 second favourite to win the Cox Plate at SportsBet

Previous second favourite Whobegotyou is now on the third line of betting paying $6.50 while the raging favourite is still reigning champion So You Think at $2.40.

The 2010 George Main Stakes was More Joyous’ first weight-for-age test and she easily lived up to the challenge with a breathtaking run to finish nearly two lengths clear of her closest rival Trusting.

The eye-catching second in the George Main by the John Thompson-trained Trusting saw their Cox Plate odds also firm dramatically from $61 into $26.

A disappointing seventh place finish by Waterhouse’s other runner Theseo after the five-time Group 1 winner lead early on has seen Waterhouse rule the seven-year-old out for the remainder of the spring.

Theseo was previously a $21 chance to win the 2010 Cox Plate.

There is just over a month to go before Moonee Valley Racecourse hosts the iconic $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) on October 23, and as the spring carnival progresses a number of weight-for-age stars have moved up the 2010 Cox Plate betting markets.

The entry that has had the most money come in for them at Sportsbet dramatically shortening their Cox Plate odds is Mark Kavanagh’s $2.6 million stakes earner Whobegotyou.

The five-year-old Street Cry gelding has firmed from $13 into $6.50 to win the 2010 Cox Plate through Sportsbet after Whobegotyou took out the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) in devastating style at Moonee Valley last Saturday.

Whobegotyou started the favourite in the 2009 Cox Plate but finished sixth, which was their only defeat at the Moonee Valley track from six starts.

The favourite to take out this year’s Cox Plate is still reigning champion So You Think, the Bart Cummings-trained son of High Chaparral at $3.80 through Sportsbet.

Following the two top elects in the Cox Plate betting are Shoot Out ($8.00), More Joyous ($11), Typhoon Tracy ($15) and Metal Bender ($15).

A good guide for the Cox Plate takes place this Saturday as Caulfield host the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) where 10 of the 12 horses in the Underwood final field are entered for the Cox Plate.

Cox Plate Entries Running in Underwood Stakes

Zavite

Metal Bender

A win by So You Think in the Underwood Stakes on Saturday will see his price slashed further in the Cox Plate markets, so now is the perfect time to lock in a generous early price.

The first declarations for the 2010 Cox Plate were closed at midday today, and resulted in 89 horses remaining in the running to claim the 2010 Cox Plate prize this year.

Gai Waterhouse still has six horses in the running for Australia’s greatest weight for age event, one of which is Theseo.

For punters looking to make an early market punt now the competition gets greater, make sure you compare odds at Sportsbet to see your bet go that much further.

The 2010 Cox Plate saw 97 nomintaions not pay the $1,100 first declarations fee, as the numbers dropped from 186 to 89.

Gai Waterhouse still has six horses in the running for Australia’s greatest weight for age event, one of which is the Group Two Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) winner Theseo.

Waterhouse is commonly regarded as one of Australia’s greatest trainers, and she is certainly going all out to get her hands on the 2010 Cox Plate prize with it being one of the only accolades she hasn’t earned.

Returning Cox Plate winner So You Think remains in the running, and is setting himself up for a consecutive win in the 2010 Cox Plate.

The champions’ trainer Bart Cummings has four other strong contenders still in the race for the 2010 Cox Plate, as he hopes to make a stamp on each of the spring features.

So You Think is still dominating the odds for the 2010 Cox Plate win, sitting at $3.80 with SportsBet.

The 2010 Cox Plate final field will feature 14 horses with four emergencies, and will light up Moonee Valley’s Racecourse on October 23 as the feature of the season.

Below we have listed the 2010 Cox Plate first declarations, so make sure you check them out to really get a feel for the runners before heading to SportsBet.

Remember the early market odds are the most lucrative, and with the competition rising the odds will only shorten – so make the most of them now!

There are just 46 days to the 2010 Cox Plate jump, so speculation is riding as to which weight for age champion will pull through when it matters most.

The four-year-old underdog has long odds of $101 with SportsBet for the 2010 Cox Plate win.

Sportsbet is the best place for online wagering, offering you a good look at various Australian odds available – so don’t miss out!

Shoot Out is an early market favourite at $6.50 with SportsBet, but trainer of rival Captain Sonador Roger Milne, is hoping to rise to the challenge.

The four-year-old underdog has long odds of $101 with SportsBet for the 2010 Cox Plate win, so the emerging stayer would pay very well to the winning punter.

Captain Sonador had a perfect first up win this spring which will target the 2010 Cox Plate, claiming a 1200 metre handicap trial at Eagle Farm.

The Shamardal entire impressed spectators over the weekend, proving he’s fully fit after surgery on his two front knees back in March.

He produced a great run which saw him come from behind to defeat Ulladulla by a length and three-quarters, after starting at the back of the field.

Milne is looking to run Captain Sonador in Sydney on September 18 in the Group Two Shannon Stakes (1500m), followed by the Group One Epsom Handicap (1600m) on October 2 before heading to Melbourne.

The four-year-old has always finished second best to Shoot Out in the three times they’ve met, but Milne believes that will change in the 2010 Cox Plate after his runners’ surgery.

So if you are looking to place an early wager on the 2010 Cox Plate final field then make sure you head to SportsBet. That way you can make the most of the highly lucrative odds on offer to see your money go that much further.
